Team News
Bodø/Glimt come into this Champions League knockout play-off second leg with huge belief after a brilliant 2-1 away win in the first leg at Estádio José Alvalade. They are flying in the Norwegian Eliteserien (top of the table early 2026) and have been almost unbeatable at Aspmyra Stadion in European competition this season (unbeaten in 6 home games, scoring in every one). No major new injuries reported; the squad is fresh and motivated. Expect Kjetil Knutsen to stick with the high-energy 4-3-3 that worked so well in Lisbon: Nikita Haikin in goal, a back four with Fredrik Sjøvold and Isak Määttä pushing high, midfield trio Patrick Berg, Sondre Fet and Håkon Evjen, and the front three of Jens Petter Hauge, Kasper Høgh and Ole Blomberg (or Ulrik Saltnes) looking to exploit Sporting’s high defensive line with pace and direct running. Bodø will press aggressively from minute one and feed off the incredible Arctic atmosphere.
Sporting CP must overturn a 2-1 deficit on the road and know they face a very difficult task. Domestically they remain strong (top of Liga Portugal), but their away European form has been inconsistent (only 1 win in last 5 UCL away games). Key absences hurt: central defender Ousmane Diomande is suspended after his red card in the first leg, while attacking midfielder Pedro Gonçalves is doubtful (hamstring). Viktor Gyökeres is fit and remains their biggest goal threat. Expect Rúben Amorim to go with a 3-4-3 or 4-3-3: Franco Israel in goal, a back three featuring Gonçalo Inácio and Eduardo Quaresma, wing-backs Geny Catamo and Nuno Santos, midfield trio Hidemasa Morita, Morten Hjulmand and Daniel Bragança, and forwards Francisco Trincão, Gyökeres and Geovany Quenda. Sporting will try to dominate possession and create overloads, but the absence of Diomande weakens their build-up and exposes them to counters.
Head to Head Analysis
This is only the second competitive meeting between the clubs. The first leg in Lisbon finished 2-1 to Bodø/Glimt in a chaotic, high-intensity game – Sporting dominated large spells (65% possession) but were repeatedly punished on the counter and from set pieces, while Bodø showed ruthless finishing. Historically the fixture is brand new, but Bodø/Glimt have an excellent recent record against Portuguese sides at home (unbeaten in their last 5 European home games vs Portuguese opposition, scoring 14 goals). Matches involving Bodø at Aspmyra tend to be open and high-scoring (over 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 home European games), while Sporting have struggled to keep clean sheets away against aggressive pressing teams. Expect another end-to-end contest – Sporting will push for an early goal, but Bodø’s intensity and counter threat should create big chances.
Prediction
Bodø/Glimt have the tie in their hands and play at one of the most difficult away venues in Europe. The Arctic cold, wind, artificial pitch and fanatical crowd make Aspmyra a nightmare for visiting teams, and Sporting are missing their best centre-back (Diomande) and will struggle to build comfortably under Bodø’s relentless pressing. Sporting have quality to hurt on the break (Gyökeres, Trincão pace), but their away defensive record in knockout ties is poor and they have already conceded twice in the tie. Bodø’s front line (Hauge, Høgh) is perfectly suited to punish any mistakes, and their set-piece work has been excellent. This should be another open, entertaining game – Sporting will score, but Bodø’s home momentum and clinical edge should see them through comfortably and reach the last 16.
Final Prediction: Bodø/Glimt win 2-1 (aggregate 4-2). Home side to progress – around 65% confidence in a Bodø victory, with both teams to score and over 2.5 goals very likely.
