Injury Blow for Indonesia: Miliano Jonathans Faces Uncertain Future Ahead of FIFA Series 2026

Indonesia’s national team received troubling news ahead of the upcoming FIFA Series 2026 as young forward Miliano Jonathans suffered a serious injury during a club match in the Dutch league. The 21-year-old prospect, who has recently attracted attention for his performances, now faces uncertainty about whether he will be able to join the national squad for the international tournament later this month.
Jonathans featured for Excelsior Rotterdam in their Eredivisie clash against Heerenveen at Stadion Woudestein. Entering the match as a second-half substitute in the 72nd minute, he was expected to provide fresh energy in attack. However, Excelsior ultimately lost the match 2–1 after Heerenveen had already taken a two-goal lead before the home side managed to respond with a late penalty.
The young attacker’s appearance lasted only a few minutes before the match took an unfortunate turn. During a challenge near the corner of the field, he collided with a Heerenveen defender and appeared to suffer a painful injury to his calf. The situation quickly escalated as he fell to the ground in visible discomfort and was later taken off the pitch on a stretcher.
Reports from Dutch media indicated that the injury looked serious, although the exact diagnosis has not yet been confirmed by the club’s medical staff. Jonathans had only a handful of touches during the match before the incident occurred, making the abrupt end to his brief appearance even more frustrating for both the player and his teammates.
The possible absence of Jonathans could become a setback for Indonesia as the team prepares for the FIFA Series. Known for his agility, dribbling ability, and versatility across attacking positions, he has been considered a promising option in the national squad. His recent performances for Excelsior, including several important contributions off the bench, had raised hopes that he could play a significant role for Indonesia in the upcoming tournament.
