Milan Ready to Cut Ties with Pervis Estupiñán After Just One Season

When Pervis Estupiñán arrived at AC Milan in the summer of 2025, expectations were high. The Ecuadorian left-back was brought in to fill the void left by Theo Hernández, who had moved to Al Hilal. Milan acted swiftly in the transfer market, identifying Estupiñán as a reliable option after his solid spell with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League. He signed a long-term deal reportedly running until 2030, with a transfer fee believed to be around £17 million.
Despite the optimism surrounding his arrival at San Siro, Estupiñán has struggled to secure a firm place in the starting lineup. Over the course of the season, he has made only 16 appearances in all competitions, with 13 of those coming in Serie A. His statistical contribution has been modest, registering no goals and just one assist. Although he started 10 league matches, inconsistency and competition have limited his overall impact.
The competition for the left-back position has intensified, particularly with the emergence of young defender Davide Bartesaghi. The youngster has reportedly impressed the coaching staff and gained valuable trust, further complicating Estupiñán’s situation. What was initially viewed as a straightforward replacement for Hernández has instead turned into a tactical dilemma for the club’s management and technical team.
Reports from Calciomercato.com suggest that Milan are now open to offers for the 27-year-old in the upcoming summer transfer window. Head coach Massimiliano Allegri is said to be willing to sanction a sale if a suitable proposal arrives. Meanwhile, sporting director Igli Tare and CEO Giorgio Furlani have reportedly included Estupiñán on the list of potential departures as they prepare for market movements.
Financial considerations also play a significant role in the club’s thinking. Milan are believed to require a fee of around €14 million to avoid a loss on their balance sheet, given that the initial deal was worth €17 million plus performance-related bonuses. Several clubs from Spain and England, along with Bologna, have been linked with interest. The Rossoneri may also be hoping that a strong showing at the 2026 World Cup boosts Estupiñán’s market value before a final decision is made.
