UEFA, CONMEBOL and the Spanish Football Federation will hold a meeting to discuss matters related to the Finalissima

Due to escalating tensions in the Middle East, the Finalissima match originally scheduled for March 27 in Doha has now been cast under a cloud of uncertainty. According to reports from Spanish media outlets such as Mundo Deportivo and Marca, UEFA, CONMEBOL and the Spanish Football Federation will hold a meeting this Monday (local time) to discuss whether the match can go ahead as planned.
On Sunday, Qatari authorities officially announced the suspension of all domestic sporting events. The decision comes against the backdrop of a large-scale military strike codenamed “Operation Fury,” jointly launched by the United States and Israel against Iran. The move has quickly impacted Spanish football, with the most immediate consequence being uncertainty over the high-profile clash set for March 27, where European champions Spain were due to face World Cup winners Argentina in the Finalissima.
Whether the match will proceed as scheduled remains unclear. Doha, the host city, is currently facing an unstable situation, creating significant uncertainty around the event’s organization. So far, the Spanish Football Federation has not issued a definitive statement on a potential postponement. However, Qatar’s suspension of domestic competitions is already enough to have a substantial impact on this marquee fixture at the end of March.
According to reports, the Spanish Football Federation, UEFA and CONMEBOL will convene a crucial meeting on Monday to assess the current situation.
It remains to be seen whether these multi-party discussions will ultimately determine the fate of this year’s Finalissima. What is certain, however, is that the meeting will help address growing concerns among all parties involved. The final decision will largely depend on further developments in the US–Iran conflict, as well as Qatar’s stance toward hosting the match.
At present, one contingency plan under consideration is relocating the game to another part of the world, though this remains purely hypothetical. Monday’s meeting will be decisive.
