Manchester City sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guéhi, with the transfer fee reportedly set at £20 million

Guehi is a product of Chelsea’s academy. During the 2019/20 season, he made two appearances for Chelsea’s first team in the EFL Cup. In January 2020, Guehi was loaned to Swansea City, where he made 14 appearances in the second half of the season. He was loaned to Swansea again in the summer of 2020 and went on to play 45 matches for the club in the 2020/21 season.

In the summer of 2021, Crystal Palace signed Guehi from Chelsea for a transfer fee of €23.3 million. Since then, he has made 188 appearances for Palace, scoring 11 goals and providing 8 assists. In the 2024/25 season, Guehi was officially appointed as Crystal Palace’s first-team captain.

During the 2025 summer transfer window, Guehi came very close to joining Liverpool. As the window neared its deadline, the two clubs had reached an agreement on a £35 million transfer fee, and renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano had even confirmed the deal with his trademark “Here we go.” However, Crystal Palace ultimately failed in their attempts to sign Igor Júlio as Guehi’s replacement, prompting the club’s hierarchy to call off the transfer. Reports claimed that Palace head coach Oliver Glasner even threatened to resign in order to keep Guehi, and as a result, Liverpool were unable to complete the signing before the window closed.

According to reports from Fabrizio Romano and Diario Olé, Manchester City’s deal to sign Guehi will be worth around £20 million. Guehi is set to sign a five-and-a-half-year contract with City, with a weekly wage exceeding £300,000.
