The Sun Exclusive: Champions League Revenue Spike Set to Deliver Massive Pay Increase for Premier League Clubs
According to an exclusive report by Martin Lipton in The Sun, Premier League giants are set to receive a significant financial boost after UEFA sold the Champions League media rights to Paramount+ in the United States.
The American broadcaster will replace TNT Sports as the main Champions League broadcaster starting in 2027. This change, alongside new deals for the Tuesday fixtures secured by Prime Sport and Sky Sports acquiring exclusive rights for the Europa League and Conference League, means the total UK rights package is now estimated to be worth approximately 560 million pounds per year, an increase of about 25 percent.
Globally, the annual revenue for all UEFA club competitions is projected to hit 5.5 billion pounds, also marking a 25 percent increase from current figures. The total prize money for the Champions League alone will jump from 2.2 billion pounds to 2.75 billion pounds per season, increasing the qualification payment per team from 16.4 million pounds to 20.6 million pounds.
The major benefit for Premier League clubs, however, will come from a revised "coefficient bonus" calculation that takes effect in 2027. This new method is designed to boost the rankings of English clubs, significantly enhancing the financial value of Champions League qualification.
Under the new scheme, Manchester City, for example, would receive an additional 15.8 million pounds on top of their current earnings, pushing their total starting bonus to 54.6 million pounds. Likewise, Liverpool’s earnings would jump from 52.9 million pounds to 68.3 million pounds. Premier League teams advancing deep into the tournament could see their overall prize money exceed 150 million pounds.
