4 Former Shin Tae-yong Favorites Left Out by Patrick Kluivert in Indonesia Squad

Patrick Kluivert has announced his squad for the fourth round of 2026 World Cup Asian qualifiers, where Indonesia will face Saudi Arabia and Iraq in Jeddah in October. The matches pose a significant challenge due to the strength of both opponents, prompting Kluivert to make surprising omissions, including key players from Shin Tae-yong’s era.
Pratama Arhan, a versatile defender known for his long throws and trusted heavily by Shin Tae-yong with 50 caps, has not featured in any matches under Kluivert despite being called up for training during FIFA Matchdays in March and June 2025. His reduced role marks a sharp contrast to his previous status as a core player for the national team.
Asnawi Mangkualam, another mainstay under Shin and former captain with 46 caps, has also seen his playing time diminish. He was left out during recent matches against Australia, Bahrain, China, and Japan, and has struggled to secure regular minutes at Port FC amid competition from experienced defenders.
Ivar Jenner and Rafael Struick, previously regulars under Shin, are absent from Kluivert’s squad due to injury and inconsistent form, respectively. In their place, Kluivert has introduced two naturalized players, Mauro Zijlstra and Miliano Jonathans, to strengthen Indonesia’s attacking options and provide fresh energy for the team.
