AC Milan Signs Rising Star David Odogu, U-17 World Champion in Indonesia

AC Milan has officially secured the signing of 19-year-old center-back David Odogu from Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg. The young German defender, known for helping Germany win the U-17 World Cup in Indonesia in 2023, joins Milan in a deal worth €7 million, with an additional €3 million in performance-related bonuses. He has signed a long-term contract until June 2029, with an option for a one-year extension, aligning with Milan's current youth-focused recruitment strategy.
Odogu gained international attention as a key figure in Germany’s golden U-17 squad, which won both the U-17 European Championship and the U-17 World Cup in the same year. His performances in the knockout stages, especially during the final against France, solidified his reputation as a reliable defender under pressure. His success earned him widespread recognition, including a special tribute in front of 30,000 fans at Wolfsburg's stadium, a moment he described as unforgettable.
AC Milan sees Odogu as a long-term asset and a crucial piece in building a new generation of talent under the leadership of sporting director Igli Tare. He joins other young prospects like Ardon Jashari and Samuele Ricci, reflecting the club’s vision to invest in players under 25. Despite limited senior experience, Odogu is widely regarded as one of the most promising defenders in his age group.
Physically dominant, tactically versatile, and blessed with strong defensive instincts, Odogu is often compared to German international Antonio Rüdiger. His speed, aggression, and clean tackling make him ideal for the modern game, and he is comfortable playing on either side of central defense. Wearing shirt number 27, he enters the Milan setup with high expectations and the potential to become part of the club’s legacy of elite defenders.
