Barcelona Races Against Time to Reopen Camp Nou for Home Clash vs Valencia

Barcelona has started the La Liga season strongly despite playing all their matches away from home, recording wins over Mallorca and Levante and a draw against Rayo Vallecano. The team now looks forward to their highly anticipated first home game against Valencia on September 14, following the international break. However, the iconic Camp Nou stadium is still not fully ready to host fans, pending final permits and safety approvals.
The club is working intensively to obtain the final work certificate (CFO) and a safety inspection report from Dekra, an independent agency appointed by the city council. These documents are required to confirm the stadium’s structural and emergency readiness before it can be partially reopened. The inspection has highlighted remaining issues with signage, emergency pathways, and service facilities that must be addressed promptly.
Barcelona hopes to receive a partial opening permit, which would allow them to activate phase 1A of stadium use, accommodating around 27,000 spectators in specific sections, mainly the main stand and southern goal area. City officials, firefighters, and police are actively monitoring the ongoing improvements and held another evaluation meeting earlier this week to assess progress.
In case the required approvals are not completed in time, Barcelona has prepared a contingency plan to host the match at Estadi Johan Cruyff, despite its much smaller 6,000-seat capacity. La Liga has granted an exception to the minimum capacity rule, provided audiovisual and VAR systems are installed before kickoff. The cost for the setup is estimated at €70,000, and Barcelona is ready to proceed to ensure the match against Valencia goes ahead without disruption.
