United Draw the Line: Ruben Amorim’s Short and Turbulent Reign Comes to an End
Manchester United officially ended their partnership with Ruben Amorim after 14 months in charge, following a 1–1 draw against Leeds United that left the club sitting sixth in the Premier League. Appointed in November 2024 as Erik ten Hag’s successor, Amorim arrived with high expectations but ultimately failed to deliver consistent results at Old Trafford.

During his time at the club, Amorim oversaw 63 matches across all competitions, recording 25 wins, 15 draws, and 23 defeats. His average of 1.43 points per game became the lowest posted by a United manager in the modern era following Sir Alex Ferguson, underlining the scale of the team’s struggles under his leadership.

The pressure intensified after a deeply disappointing first full season, which saw United finish 15th in the league. Domestic competitions exposed persistent weaknesses, and while the team reached the UEFA Conference League final, the narrow defeat to Tottenham Hotspur did little to offset poor league form.

Amorim’s record placed him unfavorably in the club’s managerial history, even drawing comparisons to eras long considered among United’s darkest. Frequent losses and draws stalled progress, while early-season league results and a shock domestic cup exit further eroded confidence among supporters and the media.

Tensions inside the club also played a role in the decision to part ways. Public frustration surrounding squad backing and long-term direction highlighted internal strain at a time when stability was urgently needed. Ultimately, United’s hierarchy opted for a clean break, signaling the need for swift change to restore competitiveness and confidence at Old Trafford.
