Eintracht Frankfurt Begins Talks on Contract Extension with Mario Götze
Eintracht Frankfurt has initiated discussions with Mario Götze regarding a potential contract extension. The club is exploring the possibility of keeping the former German international beyond his current deal, which is set to expire in the summer of 2026, with an option to extend for an additional year until 2027.

Since joining Frankfurt from PSV Eindhoven in 2022 on a free transfer, Götze has contributed steadily to the team. This season, he has made 17 appearances across all competitions, providing two assists and consistently creating opportunities for teammates with his attacking movements. His experience and vision continue to play a valuable role in Frankfurt’s midfield.

The club is keen to retain Götze, recognizing his leadership and ability to influence games despite being 33 years old. His technical skills and understanding of the game have made him a reliable creative presence, even as younger players emerge in the squad.

If the negotiations do not result in an extension, Götze could follow a path similar to other senior German players by moving to Major League Soccer. This route has been taken by former teammate Thomas Müller, who transitioned to the MLS after leaving Bayern Munich in 2025.

Götze and Müller share a storied history, having famously contributed to Germany’s 2014 World Cup victory in Brazil. Maintaining such seasoned players could provide Frankfurt with both leadership and tactical depth for the coming seasons.
