PSSI Weighs Youth-Focused Naturalization as Wolfsburg Defender Jenson Seelt Enters the Conversation
PSSI continues to keep the door open for player naturalization, particularly to strengthen Indonesia’s youth national teams. While the topic has resurfaced in public discussion, the federation views naturalization as a selective option rather than a broad strategy for all levels.
For the senior national team, the current squad is considered largely settled. The attacking line is seen as sufficiently covered, leaving little urgency to add new names. Any potential changes at this level would only be considered if a specific need emerges in key positions.
In contrast, greater flexibility exists for the youth setup, especially the Indonesia U-20 team. The coaching staff is believed to still be assessing its needs, and additional players could be brought in to support long-term development and competition depth at that age level.
The name Jenson Seelt, a defender who plays for VfL Wolfsburg, has recently drawn attention after being mentioned alongside Kevin Diks during discussions involving Bundesliga players. Despite the curiosity, no concrete plans have been formed, and the focus remains on evaluating which positions truly require reinforcement.
PSSI has also clarified its stance regarding the careers of naturalized players. The federation does not interfere in personal career decisions, particularly regarding club choices in Europe or elsewhere. While advice can be offered, the final decisions rest with the players and their representatives, both for naturalized footballers and local talents alike.
