ASEAN FIFA Rankings December 2025: Thailand Remains on Top, Malaysia Slides, What About Indonesia?

The latest FIFA rankings for December 2025 reveal some notable shifts among Southeast Asian nations. Thailand continues to dominate the region, holding the highest position among ASEAN countries and remaining the only representative in the global top 100. Despite this, they experienced a slight drop, slipping one place compared to the previous ranking.

Thailand now sits at 96th with 1,243.27 points, with the minor decline caused by Palestine overtaking them after an impressive performance in the 2025 Arab Cup. Vietnam follows closely as the second-strongest nation in ASEAN, positioned 107th with 1,189.51 points, maintaining consistent form and confirming their status as a regional powerhouse.

Malaysia, on the other hand, faced a dramatic setback. The Harimau Malaya fell five spots to 121st place, losing 22.52 points in the process. Internal issues within the Football Association of Malaysia and a series of FIFA sanctions, including annulled match results, contributed heavily to this decline, making it the sharpest drop among ASEAN countries in this edition.

Indonesia remains just behind Malaysia, ranked 122nd with 1,144.73 points. Recent defeats against Iraq and Saudi Arabia prevented the Garuda from gaining significant points, leaving them slightly behind their regional rival. The national team continues to strive for improvement amid a challenging competitive landscape in Asia.

Other ASEAN nations also experienced varied results. The Philippines ranks 136th, Singapore 148th, Myanmar 163rd, Cambodia 179th, Brunei 188th, and Timor Leste 198th. These rankings highlight the disparities and challenges within the region, showing that while Thailand and Vietnam maintain strong positions, other nations must work strategically to climb the FIFA ladder.
