Manchester United Prepare Major Squad Shake-Up with Five Players Potentially Leaving

Manchester United F.C. are reportedly preparing a significant squad overhaul ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window. The club may allow up to five players to leave as part of a strategy to improve financial stability and reshape the team for the next season.

The move comes as United continue their push to secure a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League. Since interim manager Michael Carrick took charge in January, the team’s performances have improved considerably. A strong run of results, including six wins from eight matches, has lifted the club into third place in the Premier League standings and strengthened their chances of returning to Europe’s top competition.

Despite the positive momentum on the pitch, the club’s management is already planning for financial adjustments. Reports suggest the club still has significant transfer obligations to cover, with outstanding payments reaching hundreds of millions of pounds. Offloading several players could help balance the books while creating space for new signings.

Among the players reportedly considered for sale are Mason Mount, Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Højlund, André Onana, and Manuel Ugarte. Højlund is currently on loan at S.S.C. Napoli, where his deal reportedly includes a purchase obligation if the Italian club qualifies for the Champions League. Meanwhile, Onana is spending the season with Trabzonspor, although uncertainty remains about whether the Turkish side will activate the option to buy.

Other players face uncertain futures due to limited playing time or injury concerns. Zirkzee has struggled to secure regular minutes, while Mount recently missed several league matches through injury. Ugarte has also found opportunities limited in the starting lineup. With these factors in mind, Manchester United appear set for a busy summer as they attempt to rebuild the squad and strengthen their competitiveness for the coming campaign.
