Pressure Mounts on Marcos Santos After Arema FC’s Three-Game Losing Streak

Arema FC is going through a challenging stretch in the 2025-26 BRI Super League after suffering three consecutive defeats. The disappointing run has placed the club, widely known as Singo Edan, under increasing pressure as their league performance begins to slip. Consecutive losses have not only affected their position in the standings but have also sparked questions about the stability of the team’s leadership.

The poor results came between matchweeks 23 and 25, when Arema failed to collect any points against Borneo FC, Bali United, and Bhayangkara FC. Those defeats quickly intensified scrutiny surrounding head coach Marcos Santos. Within the club’s history, a series of losses has often been followed by swift managerial changes, making the current situation particularly sensitive.

Management had initially set ambitious goals for the season, hoping the team would finish near the top of the table. However, inconsistent performances have prevented Arema from meeting those expectations so far. With the team currently sitting in 11th place with 31 points, the gap between them and the top five has become increasingly difficult to close.

Despite the growing concerns, club officials have not yet given a clear signal about Santos’ future. The management has indicated that the team’s recent struggles cannot be blamed solely on the coach. Disciplinary issues, including several red cards received by players, have also played a major role in the recent defeats.

Arema’s situation could become even more complicated in the coming weeks. The team is preparing to face Malut United at Kanjuruhan Stadium on April 3, a match expected to be difficult given their opponent’s strong form near the top of the standings. To make matters worse, Arema will be without several key players due to suspensions, further testing the squad as they attempt to recover from their recent slump.
