World Cup 2026 Rumors: Are Several Nations Really Considering Withdrawal Amid Middle East Tensions?

Growing tensions in the Middle East following the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States have sparked speculation about potential disruptions to the 2026 World Cup. As the geopolitical situation intensified, rumors began circulating on social media suggesting that several countries might withdraw from the tournament due to political instability and concerns about preparation.

The speculation gained traction after an Instagram account claimed that seven nations were considering stepping away from the competition. The list included Iran along with several prominent European teams such as Germany, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, and France, as well as South Africa. Because many of these countries are well-known football powers, the rumor quickly attracted attention among fans and observers.

Among the nations mentioned, Iran is the only one whose football authorities have acknowledged the possibility of withdrawing. The president of Iran’s football federation explained that the ongoing political situation and recent military developments could seriously disrupt the team’s preparation. However, he clarified that any final decision would ultimately depend on approval from the country’s Minister of Sports.

Despite the widespread discussion online, there has been no confirmed evidence that the other six countries are planning to pull out of the tournament. No official statements have been issued by the football federations of Germany, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, or South Africa. Major international media outlets have also not reported any verified plans of withdrawal, suggesting that most of the claims circulating online remain unsubstantiated.

The situation has also brought criticism toward the global football governing body and its leadership. Questions have been raised about the organization’s response to the broader political conflict, especially after its president previously presented a peace award to the President of the United States. As the conflict escalated afterward, critics argued that the organization appeared reluctant to comment directly on the developments, instead emphasizing that its primary role is to promote football as a unifying sport rather than intervene in geopolitical disputes.
