Elkan Baggott Set for Indonesia National Team Return Ahead of FIFA Series 2026

Elkan Baggott is expected to return to the Indonesia national team after being absent for nearly two years. The tall center-back has been included in the squad plans for the upcoming FIFA Series 2026, marking an important moment for both the player and the team. His return signals a fresh opportunity to strengthen Indonesia’s defensive line as the national team prepares for international competition.
The call-up came from Indonesia’s new head coach, John Herdman, who recently took charge of the national side. Officials from the National Team Body confirmed that Herdman decided to bring Baggott back into the squad for the March tournament. The decision highlights the coach’s intention to evaluate and utilize players with international experience as he builds his preferred team structure.
Baggott’s last appearance for Indonesia took place during the round of 16 at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup against Australia in January 2024. After that match, he was not involved in several national team fixtures, creating a long gap between his previous appearance and this potential comeback. The upcoming FIFA Series could therefore become his first chance to represent Indonesia again on the international stage.
At club level, the defender currently plays in England and has had limited playing time this season. Despite that, his height, aerial ability, and experience in European football still make him a valuable option for Indonesia’s defense. His presence is expected to add depth and competition among defenders as the team enters a new phase under Herdman’s leadership.
The FIFA Series 2026 will take place in Jakarta from 27 to 30 March, with Indonesia hosting the tournament at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. Several national teams, including Bulgaria, Solomon Islands, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, are scheduled to participate. Indonesia will face Saint Kitts and Nevis in the opening match, while the winners and losers of the first games will meet again in the final round of fixtures.
