Local Expertise Joins John Herdman as Indonesia Builds New Coaching Team

Indonesia’s national team is beginning a new chapter under head coach John Herdman, with the coaching structure gradually taking shape. The football federation has placed strong emphasis on involving domestic coaches to support the new leadership, ensuring that local knowledge and continuity remain part of the national program.

One of the key figures assisting Herdman is Nova Arianto, who has been appointed as a temporary assistant coach during the early phase of the new tenure. Nova, who also handles the Indonesia U-20 side, is expected to play an important role in helping the transition run smoothly while bridging communication and tactical understanding between players and the head coach.

Another addition to the staff is Sofie Imam Faizal, a familiar name in Indonesia’s youth development system. He has worked closely with Nova at the U-20 level and brings extensive experience in managing physical conditioning. Over the years, Sofie has contributed to various national teams, ranging from the U-17 squad to the senior side, giving him a broad understanding of the country’s player pool.

The coaching unit is further strengthened by the presence of Dzikry Lazuardi, known for his analytical work with Persija Jakarta. His role is expected to enhance match preparation, data analysis, and tactical evaluation, areas that are increasingly vital in modern football. Together, the three local assistants form a support system designed to complement Herdman’s approach while maintaining a strong connection to Indonesian football culture.

Herdman is set to make his debut with Indonesia at the FIFA Series 2026 in March, where the team will compete against Bulgaria, the Solomon Islands, and Saint Kitts and Nevis.
