Former Arsenal F.C. co-owner David Dein has admitted that allowing Ashley Cole to leave the club remains one of the biggest regrets of his time in football management. The transfer, which took place in 2006, shocked many supporters and quickly became one of the most controversial moves in Premier League history, especially because Cole joined Arsenal’s London rivals, Chelsea F.C.

The situation became even more contentious after reports surfaced that Cole had secretly met with then-Chelsea manager José Mourinho and club officials well before the transfer was finalized.
