Regional Airspace Crisis Forces Roberto Mancini to Step Away Temporarily from Al-Sadd

The worsening geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have unexpectedly affected football operations at Al-Sadd, forcing head coach Roberto Mancini to step away from his duties for the time being. The Italian manager is currently unable to return to Qatar because regional airspace restrictions have halted flights into the country. As a result, the club must temporarily continue its activities without its main coach on the sidelines.

Mancini had previously left Qatar with the approval of the club’s management in order to deal with an urgent family medical matter. At the time, his departure was meant to be brief, with the expectation that he would quickly return to resume his responsibilities with the team. However, the sudden escalation of regional tensions led to flight bans that have prevented him from traveling back as planned.

With the head coach unable to rejoin the squad, Al-Sadd has made a temporary coaching adjustment. Assistant coach Sergio Alegre has been assigned to lead the team for their upcoming match against Umm Salal. The decision ensures that the team can continue preparing for competitions while waiting for Mancini’s return once travel restrictions are lifted.

Mancini has been in charge of the Qatari club since November last year. His appointment came after a brief managerial stint with the Saudi Arabian national team. The former manager of Manchester City and the former head coach of Italy brought significant international experience to Al-Sadd when he took over the role.

At the moment, there is still no clear timeline for when Mancini will be able to resume his position. His return depends largely on improvements in regional security conditions and the reopening of airspace in the Gulf area. Until travel becomes possible again, Al-Sadd will rely on its coaching staff to maintain stability within the team.
