Saudi Clubs Target Mason Greenwood, Manchester United Could Profit from Future Transfer

Mason Greenwood is reportedly attracting attention from clubs in Saudi Arabia, raising the possibility of a major transfer in the upcoming summer window. Such a move could indirectly benefit Manchester United, which included a significant sell-on clause when the forward was previously transferred.

Greenwood began his professional journey through the Manchester United academy and quickly rose to prominence after joining the senior squad. His promising career was interrupted in early 2022 following serious legal allegations that caused widespread controversy. Although the charges were later dropped, the club decided not to reintegrate him into the team due to concerns surrounding reputation and public image.

In 2023, the English forward was sent on loan to Getafe CF, where he managed to rebuild his form and confidence. His performances in Spain eventually led to a permanent transfer to Olympique de Marseille in the summer of 2024, giving him a fresh start in a new league.

At Marseille, Greenwood quickly became an important figure in the squad and one of the standout attacking players under manager Roberto De Zerbi. However, the coach’s departure earlier this year after disagreements with the club’s management created uncertainty around several players, including Greenwood, whose future at the French side may now be reconsidered.

Interest from teams in the Saudi Pro League could open the door to another high-value transfer. If Marseille decides to sell the player, Manchester United would receive a sizeable portion of the fee because of a resale clause reportedly worth around 35 to 40 percent. With Greenwood’s estimated market value reaching about €50 million and his contract in France running until 2029, any major deal could deliver a significant financial boost to the English club.
