SER: Mbappé’s Injury Quite Serious, Left Knee Posterior Cruciate Ligament Near Its Limit

According to Cadena SER, Real Madrid are hoping that Kylian Mbappé can recover in time for the second leg of their Champions League tie against Manchester City, but the player himself is unwilling to risk a serious knee injury. With the World Cup fast approaching, his camp believes he must make a full recovery and does not agree with the club’s proposed timetable for his return.

Real Madrid are still dealing with the aftermath of Monday’s unexpected defeat to Getafe at the Santiago Bernabéu. The loss has complicated their bid to stay at the top of La Liga and added further turbulence to an already unsettled season. One of the issues revolves around Mbappé. His injury situation has been shrouded in a certain degree of mystery. Although the club’s medical report described it as a sprain to his left knee, uncertainty remains.

Speaking on Tuesday’s edition of El Larguero, journalist Meana revealed more details about the French forward’s condition after he missed the match against Getafe. Real Madrid estimate his recovery period at around three weeks and believe he could be available for the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Manchester City. However, Mbappé’s entourage disagrees with that assessment, arguing that the injury is more serious than it appears and pointing out that only around 100 days remain until the World Cup.

Meana said, "The posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee is close to its limit. We call it a sprain because that’s what the medical report says, but in reality the injury is quite serious. With only 100 days left until the World Cup, Mbappé cannot afford to waste a single day. He needs this time to fully restore his physical condition.” This was the message relayed by the player’s camp, according to the journalist.

As a result, his team does not agree with the return schedule set by Real Madrid. Meana added: “As soon as he steps onto the pitch, he is taking a risk, and he is not willing to take that risk.”

With the World Cup drawing nearer, any serious knee setback would deprive France of their most important player on the field. The outcome of the first leg against Manchester City could also influence whether Mbappé is willing to take a gamble in the return match. Meana noted: “If Madrid lose 0-3 at home, he will not gamble with his leg in the second leg just to try to pull off a comeback. His camp believes that the priority right now is to fully heal the injury. We call it a sprain because that’s what the medical report says. But judging from the recovery timeline and Mbappé’s current condition… it certainly raises doubts.”
