Arsenal Step Up Pursuit of Julian Alvarez Ahead of Potential 2026 Move
Arsenal’s strong links with La Liga could once again shape their transfer strategy in the coming years, with the club reportedly accelerating plans to target Julian Alvarez. After successfully bringing several players from Spain to North London in recent seasons, the Premier League leaders are now monitoring another high-profile name who could make the switch in 2026.

Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024 and has delivered mixed performances overall this season. However, his impact at the RiyadhAir Metropolitano has stood out, showcasing his quality and reigniting interest from major clubs across Europe. His form has ensured he remains firmly on the radar of elite teams.

Barcelona have emerged as a notable admirer, though their ongoing financial issues appear to limit their ability to make a serious move. Other Premier League sides, including Chelsea and Liverpool, have also been linked, but Arsenal are now positioning themselves to move ahead of their domestic rivals.

One factor working in Arsenal’s favor is the involvement of sporting director Andrea Berta, who is known to have a close relationship with Alvarez. Having previously played a key role in negotiating his move to Atletico, Berta’s familiarity with the player and his representatives could prove decisive if negotiations begin.

Atletico Madrid are under no financial pressure to sell and remain reluctant to consider offers, especially with Alvarez valued at over €100 million. Even so, Arsenal are expected to test that resolve as they continue to reshape Mikel Arteta’s squad. With questions surrounding the club’s current striking options, a renewed push for a proven forward could become a central theme of their long-term planning.
