“The Least We Can Do” — Manchester City Players to Personally Refund Supporters’ Ticket Costs After Defeat

Manchester City players are set to refund the ticket costs of supporters who attended the match.
Manchester City’s players will personally reimburse the match ticket fees of fans who travelled long distances to support the team.
City suffered a 1–3 defeat away to Bodø/Glimt in Matchday 7 of the UEFA Champions League league phase on the 20th. The English champions found themselves in serious trouble after conceding three goals in quick succession in the 22nd, 24th, and 58th minutes. Rayan Cherki pulled one back in the 60th minute, but shortly after, Rodri was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, sealing the defeat.
According to the BBC, 374 Manchester City supporters made the trip to Norway. With match tickets priced at around £25 each, the total amount comes to approximately £9,357 (around ¥1.98 million). The players have reportedly decided to cover the refund out of their own pockets.
A statement was issued on behalf of the team by Bernardo Silva, Rúben Dias, Rodri, and Erling Haaland.
“Our supporters mean everything to us. We know that our fans travel all over the world to support us, both at home and away, and we never take that for granted. They are the best fans in the world.”
“We also understand how difficult the journey was for those supporters, especially as they stood by us in freezing conditions despite it being a tough night on the pitch. Covering the ticket costs for the fans who travelled to Bodø is the least we can do.”
A representative of the official supporters’ club also commented on the players’ gesture, saying:
“Manchester City supporters share an incredible bond with the players throughout every match, and this is a powerful reminder of that relationship. It means an enormous amount to us.”
