Real Madrid Eyes Haaland as Backup Plan Amid Vinicius Uncertainty
Real Madrid are facing uncertainty over Vinicius Jr.’s future despite his contract running until 2027. Under coach Xabi Alonso, Vinicius has occasionally been left out of the starting lineup, leading to visible frustration during a recent El Clasico when he reacted emotionally after being substituted. His relationship with Alonso has been described as tense, halting contract extension talks that began earlier this year.

The Brazilian winger reportedly apologized to club president Florentino Perez but made it clear he has no intention of renewing his contract for now. The breakdown in negotiations stems from strained dynamics with Alonso and disagreements over playing positions, notably during the Club World Cup match against PSG where he was played out of position. Vinicius has since been linked to potential moves abroad, including interest from Saudi Arabia and Manchester United, which is reportedly preparing a £176 million offer.

In response to the uncertainty, Real Madrid are keen to retain Vinicius but have prepared a contingency plan should he leave. The club is reportedly targeting a high-profile replacement to maintain their attacking strength, with Erling Haaland of Manchester City at the top of their wishlist. While securing Haaland would be challenging due to his long-term contract until 2034, Real’s good relations with his agent could make a deal feasible.

Financially, Vinicius is currently earning around £15.8 million per year, and Madrid’s contract extension offer was rejected as the player reportedly seeks a historic package approaching Cristiano Ronaldo’s wages during his time at the club. With the uncertainty looming, Real Madrid must balance retaining one of their key assets or executing a marquee signing to secure their offensive future.
