Indra Sjafri Narrows Down Indonesia U-23 Squad Ahead of SEA Games 2025

Indonesia U-23 head coach Indra Sjafri has identified 18 players as key candidates for the upcoming SEA Games in Thailand, with the final squad expected to include 23 players. Although the full list has not been publicly released, the coaching team has a clear plan for which players will join the national squad for the prestigious regional tournament.
The team recently completed two friendly matches against Mali as part of the final selection process. The first game ended in a 0-3 loss, while the second match resulted in a 2-2 draw. Despite the mixed results, these matches provided valuable lessons for shaping the squad and testing tactical approaches.
The primary focus of these friendlies was not on winning but on developing a team framework and assessing players’ readiness. Indra has confirmed that the 18 players currently under consideration have been validated, with only five more spots remaining to finalize the squad before departure on November 23.
The matches against Mali also offered insight into tactical adjustments, particularly in balancing pressing with counter-attacks. The strategy leverages the players’ stamina and quick recovery, allowing the team to adapt dynamically during games. This approach is intended to maximize Indonesia’s strengths as they aim to defend their gold medal from the previous SEA Games edition.
