Rooney Ranks Semenyo, Mbeumo, and Gyökeres as Premier League's Top Three Performers

Wayne Rooney recently shared his assessment of the top three outstanding players in the Premier League so far this season during an appearance on Amazon Prime.When asked for his selections, Rooney prioritized a mix of form and impact. He named Antoine Semenyo as his first choice, citing the forward's excellent performances for Bournemouth and the continuation of his impressive form from last season.

Rooney’s second selection was Bryan Mbeumo, noting that the Manchester United player has been a standout performer within the team despite the club's mixed start to the season.
Finally, Rooney chose Arsenal's new striker Viktor Gyökeres for the third spot. He emphasized that Gyökeres’s arrival had perfectly addressed Arsenal's long-standing need for a top-class number nine. Rooney highlighted the striker’s aggressive running, determined ball-carrying, and goal-scoring ability as reasons for his inclusion in the top three.

During a separate appearance on The Overlap, Rooney offered his view on Manchester City's Erling Haaland. Rooney acknowledged that Haaland had shown improvements this season, particularly in his ability to link up and hold the ball.

However, Rooney stressed that Haaland should be viewed purely as a goal-scoring machine, noting that the sheer volume of his goals means the public should not expect him to display the all-round style of a player like Didier Drogba. Rooney added that technically, Haaland remains less proficient than others when it comes to close control and evading defenders, though he believes the striker appears to be technically better and physically "lighter" this campaign.
