Ulsan Hyundai Ends Shin Tae-yong Era After Struggling Run of Form

Shin Tae-yong’s brief tenure at Ulsan Hyundai has come to an abrupt end following a disappointing string of results. Appointed in August 2025 as a replacement for Kim Pang-gon, he arrived with high expectations, especially after his time with the Indonesian national team. However, the transition back to club management after several years proved challenging, and the club’s patience ran out after just ten matches.
Despite an encouraging start with a narrow win over Jeju SK, Ulsan’s momentum quickly unraveled. Consecutive defeats in the K League 1 to Suwon FC, FC Seoul, and Jeonbuk Hyundai highlighted deeper issues within the squad. Occasional positive results, such as a win in the AFC Champions League Elite, were not enough to offset the instability. The heavy loss to Gimcheon Sangmu marked the final setback and effectively sealed his fate.
Over his short spell, Shin managed only two victories, alongside four draws and four defeats. His team struggled both offensively and defensively, scoring just ten goals while conceding sixteen. Ulsan, once a competitive force, found themselves slipping further down the league table, unable to establish rhythm or consistency under his leadership.
With the club now sitting tenth in a twelve-team league and facing growing pressure from supporters, the decision to part ways became inevitable. As Ulsan prepares to face Gwangju FC in their next fixture, they will look to regroup and salvage what remains of the season. For Shin Tae-yong, this marks a difficult chapter in his return to domestic club football, leaving questions about his next step in management.
