Bernardo Tavares Steps Down as PSM Makassar Coach, Club Names Temporary Successor
PSM Makassar has officially parted ways with head coach Bernardo Tavares following his resignation after more than three and a half seasons in charge. The Portuguese tactician, who led the club through several successful campaigns, decided to step down, a move that was respected by the management. His departure marks the end of a significant era for the Makassar-based side, which has been guided by his leadership since his arrival.

In response, the club appointed assistant coach Ahmad Amiruddin as caretaker manager to ensure stability and continuity while the search for a permanent replacement is underway. The management emphasized that team operations will proceed as usual, with training sessions resuming on October 10 after the international break. The team’s focus remains on maintaining performance and consistency for the rest of the 2025-26 season.

PSM Makassar also extended gratitude to Tavares for his dedication and achievements during his tenure and called upon supporters to continue backing the team. The club reaffirmed its commitment to fighting for better results in the ongoing campaign, emphasizing the importance of unity between players, staff, and fans as they navigate this transition period.

The team’s first match without Tavares on the sidelines will be against Arema FC on October 19 at the BJ Habibie Stadium in Parepare. Currently sitting in 14th place with eight points from seven matches, PSM aims to regain momentum and climb the Super League standings under Amiruddin’s interim guidance before appointing a new head coach.
