A real buzz is expected in and around Stadio Georgios Karaiskaki on Thursday evening when Olympiakos play host to Freiburg in Gameweek No 2 of competition in UEFA Europa League Group G.
Olympiakos did not hold on to a draw in Matchday 1 at Stade de la Beaujopire . Louis Fonteneau, conceding a late stoppage-time goal to lose the opener against French Ligue 1 side Nantes.
To be fair, the Greek champions did not deserve anything else but a defeat having only registered four shots in total (one of which went on target) last week in France.
Olympiakos entered the new season with high ambitions under new manager Carlos Corberan. However, the Spanish manager obviously still needs some time to adjust to life in Piraeus and Greece in general.
Corberan’s men have already slipped up twice in the opening four games of the new Greek Super League campaign.
Olympiakos will face hard times trying to get their first point(s) on board this Thursday since the opposition comes in the likes of Freiburg.
Freiburg are enjoying a fantastic spell of form at the beginning of the new Bundesliga season. They won four, drew one, and lost one of the inaugural six games of the season and currently sit at the second place in the leagues standings.
Christian Streich’s men did not shine in the Europa League opener against Qarabag but they still managed to get the win thanks to early goals from Vincenzo Grifo and Ritsu Doan.
