Silas Departs Stuttgart for Mainz, Ending Historic Six-Year Stay
VfB Stuttgart has officially announced the permanent transfer of 27-year-old winger Silas Katompa Mvumpa to Mainz 05, marking the conclusion of his six-and-a-half-year tenure with the club. Silas, who originally joined from Paris FC in the summer of 2019, leaves a significant legacy at the MHP Arena. During his time in Swabia, the Congolese international made 132 appearances, contributing 35 goals and 21 assists while becoming a fan favorite for his explosive pace and technical ability.

The winger’s career in Germany was defined by a spectacular start followed by unfortunate physical setbacks. He was a cornerstone of Stuttgart's promotion to the Bundesliga in 2020, providing 15 goal contributions that season. His top-flight debut was even more impressive; he was named the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season for 2020/21 after recording 11 goals and 5 assists in just 23 matches. However, a series of severe knee and shoulder injuries beginning in April 2021 hampered his consistency and eventually led to a loan spell with Red Star Belgrade last season.

For Mainz 05, the acquisition of Silas represents a calculated gamble on a proven Bundesliga talent who is still in his prime. Currently fighting for mid-table stability, Mainz hopes that a change of scenery will help Silas rediscover the form that once made him one of Europe's most exciting prospects. As he settles into his new surroundings, Stuttgart supporters have taken to social media to bid farewell to a player who remained a loyal servant through the club's various ups and downs over the last decade.
