Inter Milan Set Clear Conditions for Potential Joao Cancelo January Return

The experienced full-back, currently with Al-Hilal, is being considered as Inter look to strengthen their squad without disrupting financial balance.

Cancelo is believed to be open to a return to European football after a relatively short spell in Saudi Arabia. Less than two years after leaving Manchester City, the Portuguese defender has reportedly grown uncomfortable with his situation and is eager to compete again at the highest level in Europe. This openness has helped place Inter on his list of potential destinations.

His circumstances at Al-Hilal have also changed following the arrival of a new head coach. With his role no longer guaranteed, Cancelo is actively exploring options ahead of the winter window. A return to San Siro is seen as an attractive prospect, given his familiarity with Italian football and Serie A.

Inter’s first requirement concerns the structure of the deal. Due to the high valuation attached to Cancelo, the club is only willing to pursue a loan move. Any agreement would need to include an option for a permanent transfer at the end of the loan, rather than an immediate obligation, allowing Inter to manage risk and maintain financial stability.

The second and most challenging condition involves Cancelo’s salary. His current earnings in Saudi Arabia are far above Serie A standards and would exceed Inter’s wage structure. For negotiations to progress, a significant adjustment to his salary would be essential, making this factor a decisive hurdle in any potential transfer.
