Moyes: Grealish Still Recovering from Illness; Played Against Forest Out of Necessity
Following Everton’s 2-0 away victory over Nottingham Forest in Round 19 of the Premier League, manager David Moyes revealed that Jack Grealish was not physically fit to participate in the match. Grealish, who missed the previous fixture against Burnley due to illness, only entered the game as a substitute in the 72nd minute. His absence from training had coincided with a controversial report by The Sun, which alleged the winger hosted a £20,000 Christmas party in London and was seen at a luxury club until 4:00 AM just days before falling ill.

Despite these reports and his poor health, Grealish was named on the bench at the City Ground due to a severely depleted squad. Moyes emphasized before the match that the team’s lack of depth forced his hand, stating, "We don't have much room for rotation... Jack Grealish is back on the bench, but he shouldn't be here. He is still sick." The manager explained that under normal circumstances, the winger would have remained sidelined to recover fully, but the current injury crisis left the Toffees with limited options.

Grealish ultimately played the final 20 minutes to help see out the win, though Moyes maintained that the player's condition was nowhere near 100%. The victory provides some breathing room for Everton, yet the reliance on a struggling Grealish highlights the club's urgent need for squad reinforcements. As the January window approaches, Moyes' public comments about having "too few available players" suggest that the club hierarchy will be under pressure to bolster the roster for the second half of the season.
