Dani Alves Eyes Football Comeback After Taking Over Portuguese Third-Tier Club

Dani Alves has taken a major step back into football by completing the acquisition of Portuguese third-division side Sporting Clube de São João de Ver. The former Barcelona and Brazil defender has finalized the deal with the backing of Brazilian investors, marking a new chapter in his long and eventful career.
At 42, Alves is also weighing up the possibility of returning to the pitch by signing a short-term playing contract with the club. The idea reflects his desire to remain actively involved in the game, not only as an owner but also as a player during the early phase of the project.
Earlier this year, Alves saw a significant legal development when a Spanish court overturned his previous rape conviction on appeal, citing insufficient evidence. The ruling restored his presumption of innocence after a period that kept him away from professional football for more than a year.
Since being released from prison in 2024 after posting bail, Alves has stayed connected to football through behind-the-scenes work, particularly in Europe. He has also continued personal training and believes he can quickly regain match fitness if given the opportunity to compete again.
Sporting Clube de São João de Ver, based in the Aveiro region, already features several Brazilian players, which could ease Alves’ integration both on and off the field. Alongside his ambition to play again, the veteran defender is also looking ahead to a future in coaching, making this venture part of a broader plan to rebuild his football career.
