Indonesia U-23 Exit Triggers PSSI Shake-Up as Indra Sjafri Departs
The Indonesian Football Association has officially ended its cooperation with Indonesia U-23 head coach Indra Sjafri following disappointing results at the 2025 SEA Games. The decision came after the team failed to progress beyond the qualification stage despite entering the tournament as defending champions.

Indonesia U-23 managed only three points from two matches, suffering a narrow defeat to the Philippines before securing a win against Myanmar. That return proved insufficient to advance, marking an early and unexpected exit that ultimately weighed heavily in the federation’s evaluation.

After conducting a post-tournament review, PSSI and Indra Sjafri mutually agreed to part ways. The termination of the contract took effect immediately, with both sides committing to fulfill their respective rights and obligations under the existing agreement.

The changes did not stop at the coaching position, as the national team manager also chose to step down from his role. His resignation covered responsibilities across both senior and age-group national teams, including tournament duties such as the SEA Games.

Going forward, the former manager will shift his focus to work within the National Team Agency, helping prepare Indonesian national teams for demanding challenges ahead. With several squads requiring rebuilding and renewed focus, PSSI now faces a crucial period of restructuring aimed at restoring competitiveness and long-term success.
