Tochigi were leading 1-0 away at high-flying Ventforet Kofu last weekend until an 88th minute equaliser saw them come away with only a 1-1 draw in their J2 game. Two vital draws against promotion-chasing teams in the last two games should see them confident enough to take on the spluttering FC Ryukyu. While Ryukyu are 10 points above Tochigi, the momentum and motivation of getting out of the relegation zone – possibly – if they win this one could see them through.

A Satoki Uejo goal was all Ryukyu had to show for their efforts last weekend in J2 as they lost 5-1 at home to Tokyo Verdy. They have conceded 22 goals in their last nine league matches with just two wins in there, both against bottom five clubs. Being 10 points from safety they may let their guard down against their hosts, who will be desperate and going all out for the win here. A win that could save their season and, possibly, drag Ryukyu into a relegation fight that we thought they were out of.

Tochigi's home fans will know they have the chance to get out of the relegation places and will be there in force behind their team. Tochigi should have enough momentum from their last two creditable draws to take the points in this game.

While Tochigi have four low-scoring draws in their last nine league games, they've also a 3-0, 3-1 and 3-2 game in there. Ryukyu conceded five last week and have a 3-3 draw in their recent games also. They have a potent attack at times, let down by a leaky defence. I see at least three goals in this one.

A 3-0 home win for Ryukyu earlier this season was the first time these two teams had met in J2.
