Monterrey to beat their local rivals in the first leg of the Apertura 2018 final
Tigres UANL’s Juninho is back in training after missing Saturday’s semi-final second leg with a muscular injury.
Monterrey’s top scorer Aviles Hurtado is also back in contention after missing Sunday’s game with a thigh problem.
Tigres UANL

Doubtful: Enrique Palos, Israel Jimenez (both thigh); Juninho (muscular injury)
Injured/unavailable: Luis Daniel Martinez (cruciate ligament), Miguel Ortega (shoulder)
Suspended: None
Doubtful: Aviles Hurtado (thigh)
Injured/unavailable: None
Tigres UANL strolled into the final with a 4-0 aggregate win over CF America. Having prevailed 1-0 away from home in Thursday’s first leg, Ricardo Ferretti’s side won 3-0 at home on Saturday thanks to an Enner Valencia brace and an Andre-Pierre Gignac penalty. Tigres won the Apertura 2015 and 2016 titles and they will be hoping to make it three in a row this winter.
Monterrey’s passage into the final was even more comfortable as they beat Monarcas Morelia 4-0 at home on Sunday to claim a 5-0 victory on aggregate. Rogelio Funes Mori scored a hat-trick and Carlos Sanchez netted a penalty to ensure that the absence of top scorer Aviles Hurtado did not affect Antonio Mohamed’s side.
With Monterrey and Tigres first and second in the regular league table, their meeting in the final will be the biggest Clasico Regiomontano in years. Monterrey have been the best side in Mexico this season and they should be able to overcome their local rivals.
This is sure to be a very tight game between the two sides that conceded the fewest goals this season, with Tigres UANL shipping 16 and Monterrey 12 during regular season. There is a good chance that there will only be one goal in it and with the visitors winning two of their last three away wins 1-0, I will go with a repeat of that scoreline here.
The two rivals have already met four times this year, with each side claiming two victories.
Tigres UANL VS Monterrey, away win
