Sparta Rotterdam’s defence could still be lacking three players, but they can all be considered backup players.

De Graafschap are without Ted van de Pavert.

Sparta Rotterdam went into the second leg of their second round playoff tie with a 2-0 lead over Oss and enjoyed a fairly easy return leg, beating their opponents 3-0 at home. Bart Vriends scored the opening goal after 15 minutes and although it meant that they most likely had the aggregate win in the bag Ragnar Ache rounded off the victory by scoring two goals in the 86th and 87th minute. The regular season’s runners-up were the strongest home side in the Dutch second division with 14 wins, three draws and two losses, scoring more than anyone else on their own turf, too.

De Graafschap drew 1-1 against Cambuur in Friesland in the first leg of their second round playoff tie. The return leg turned out to be a nervous and hectic affair with chances created on both sides and eight yellow cards in total, but it ultimately ended in a 2-0 win and therefore a 3-1 aggregate victory for De Graafschap. Charlison Benschop was their main man, scoring the opener in the 24th minute and then converting a penalty in the 40th minute. Worryingly though, De Graafschap were the second worst away team during their regular campaign in the top flight.

Given the teams’ respective home and away records, I’m going to side with the hosts here.

Sparta Rotterdam’s regular home league matches produced an average of 3.7 total goals and De Graafschap’s regular away league games saw 3.5 on average. More than three total goals seems likely.

Both sides have won two of their last five league meetings at home, drawing the other one. Their last encounter was four years ago.
