Holland Jupiler League -- NEC Nijmegen  VS  Jong Ajax (Youth)

NEC Nijmegen welcome back Ferdie Druijf and Ole Romeny from their international call-ups. Tom Overtoom featured as a substitute last time out, but Rens van Eijden is out for the season.

Jong Ajax’s Boy Kemper is set to return from suspension. Seb Pasquali has left.

NEC Nijmegen

Injured/Unavailable: Norbert Alblas (leg), Frank Sturing (unspecified), Rens van Eijden (knee)

Jong Ajax

Injured/Unavailable: Abdallah Aberkane (unspecified), Dani de Wit

NEC Nijmegen were missing several players in their league match away at Sparta Rotterdam, who were similarly depleted, last week and lost 1-0 after conceding the only goal in the 40th minute. The mid-table side will have been disappointed about that result, which ended a nine-match unbeaten streak of four wins and five draws in the league.

Jong Ajax hosted Jong Utrecht in the last round, in what should have been a simple home win. However, they only managed to hold the rock-bottom side to an entertaining 3-3 league draw. Damjan Dostanic scored on his debut for the hosts, securing the 1-0 lead in the fifth minute, before Vaclav Cerny netted his eighth goals of the season shortly after. However, their comfortable 2-0 half-time lead was cancelled out shortly after, with Jong Utrecht scoring in the 51st and 59th minute. Quinten Timber hit the back of the net for the home side once again, but Jong Utrecht then equalised. Jong Ajax have now failed to win in their previous four league games, drawing three and losing one.

NEC Nijmegen are coming off a defeat, but they have won their last four league fixtures at home and I see them as the favourites here.

NEC Nijmegen have scored an impressive 34 goals in their 15 home league games while only two of Jong Ajax’s last 12 away league matches have featured fewer than three total goals. I expect a high-scoring affair.

NEC Nijmegen have won their last two home league encounters with a 2-1 scoreline. However, the two most recent league meetings have ended in victories for Jong Ajax.
