MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: DRAW

Lillestrom were the surprise winners of their round ten league fixture against Valerenga, beating them 3-0 away from home. Thomas Olsen scored a goal in each half and Tobias Salquist rounded things off with a third strike in 21 minutes from time. That win halted a winless run of four league games (two draws, two losses) for the club. Their home league form in 2019 has been somewhat inconsistent, having won two, drawn one and lost two. Lillestrom are currently in tenth place in the table on 12 points. While it may not be the most impressive position, they are on target to finish higher than last season’s 12th place.

Not much went right for Viking in their last league match when they suffered a 5-1 defeat away at league leaders Molde. They were only 2-1 behind at the break, but in the second half the visitors were outclassed as the hosts ran riot. Viking’s only goal came from Tommy Hoiland, who kept up his recent scoring record with four goals in his last five league games. However, it is in defence that the Stavanger club look most vulnerable: They have conceded 13 goals in only nine league games so far. The loss of Axel Oskar Andresson on the opening weekend of the season has proved to be a big one to their defensive solidity.

The last five league meetings between these teams at Arasen Stadium have been won by just a single goal. I think this league encounter will be another close contest, but I will predict a draw this time.

SECOND PREDICTION: HILO - LOW

Lillestrom have struggled for goals at home in the league this season, having scored just four in five home league outings and drawing a blank in two of their last four.  Viking have had similar scoring problems away from home in league action, finding the net on only five occasions in five away league matches and failing to score in two of their last four. I don’t expect many total goals here.

HEAD TO HEAD

The teams last met in 2017 in league action when Lillestrom won 1-0 at home and drew 2-2 away. Two of the last three league meetings have been draws, along with Lillestrom’s aforementioned victory.
