Draw Between Two Teams That Lost in Midweek!
Yokohama F.Marinos were soundly beaten by J1 leaders Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the week. Their lone goal came from a Hugo Vieira penalty. Kurihara is still missing through injury.
Vissel Kobe will miss Lukas Podolski through suspension after an accumulation of yellow cards. Wellington limped heavily off the field at the end at midweek and will be assessed. We should mark him as doubtful for now.
Suspended: None
Doubtful: None
Injured/Unavailable: Yuzo Kurihara (hamstring)
Suspended: Lukas Podolski (one game)
Doubtful: Leandro, Wellington
Injured/Unavailable: Yuya Nakasaka (right leg muscle)
Yokohama F.Marinos were no match for leaders Sanfrecce Hirohima in the week, their only goal coming from a Hugo Vieira penalty. They were outshot 15 to 5 according to official statistics from J.League and are still struggling to master the system that manager Postecoglou is asking them to play. It's all out passing, running and very tiring, and they'll need a big squad and canny use of substitutes if they are to start winning matches and not tire out early. For now they sit in 14th position, with 8 points and, to be honest, if not for the three points in a quite fortunate 1-0 win against S-Pulse they would be looking up from the bottom three. Just six goals scored is the 3rd-worst in the division and they must start getting results from their possession soon.
Vissel Kobe were fortunate enough to beat Gamba Osaka on a last-gasp goal on the previous weekend before suffering that same fate themselves in a game they probably should have won losing to an added time goal against Urawa Reds. Their defeat against Urawa Reds in midweek featured four teenagers in the line-up, and one scored – Daiju Sasaki! Another change was Wellington starting up front, and he also got on the scoresheet. Fujitani was excellent down the right wing, but the left side was lacking a little. Podolski will be missing from this game through suspension, but I feel he will not be a big loss as Vissel will be changing the line-up as usual.
While I feel that Vissel have the better potential to win this, F.Marinos have home advantage and the crowd behind them and should salvage a draw. To be on the safe side, I will go with Vissel Kobe on the +1 market.
Vissel have a negative goal difference and their 11 goals conceded (while having scored 10) tells me that we will see goals here.
These two teams have met 33 times since 2003, with F.Marinos winning 14 times to Vissel's 7 victories. There have been 12 draws in that time period. F.Marinos won the home game and drew away last season.
