Ardija took a real six-point win over J2 leaders Kashiwa Reysol last weekend. Kanji Okunuki and Akimi Barada scored the goals minutes before half time. They have won five of their last six league games to rise to within spitting distance of the top spot, although it is probably too late for that now – but a win against Reysol last weekend helped them keep that dream alive. They will surely do enough to beat lowly Avispa Fukuoka and move into 2nd place in J2 with this win. One of the best defences in J2 has been outstanding, especially centre back Hiroyuki Komoto.

Avispa won three valuable points in a 2-0 home win over Tokyo Verdy last weekend in J2. Yuki Saneto and Riki Matsuda were their scorers. That left Avispa eight points clear of the relegation spots and all but safe. They will have had a load lifted from their collective minds, although not 100% sure yet, of course. Despite the lack of pressure, of course, they will still be struggling to get anything from a very good Omiya Ardija team. They basically need two points from four games and I am sure they will get them. But not today!

Ardija will be up for the biggest game in quite a while. A win here will put them into 2nd place in J2, two points clear of 3rd place and only three points off the top! They will surely not fail to win this one!

Ardija have been level at the break 19 times – 50% of their games – and gone on to win eight of those. They score a lot of goals later in the game – 24 goals in the last 25 minutes of games. Expect a late surge to win this one, also.

Last season in J2 each of these teams won their home game, while earlier in 2019 we saw a 1-1 draw in Fukuoka.
