Iceland: Good results in competitive games ( Recent Form: D D D W L )

In recent years, Iceland has surprised friend and foe by placing itself as an island of just under 300,000 inhabitants in succession to a European Championship and a World Cup. At the European Championships, the islanders even reached the quarterfinals and in the subsequent qualifying series for the World Cup, the team even ended as a group winner in a pool with Turkey, Croatia, Ukraine and Finland. The fact is, however, that hardly any more was won after January 2018. Since then, the Icelanders have played seventeen games (including three at the World Cup), but won only one of them, and that was against Andorra in the current World Cup qualifying pool. So 2018 was a dramatic year for Iceland, with fifteen games without a win and a downright fall in the Nations League (four hopeless defeats against Switzerland and Belgium). Iceland's formula for success seems a bit elaborated. National coach Erik Hamrén still has to rely on exactly the same players and the same playing style no longer seems to work. It is no shame at all for such a small country.

Albania: Some problems ( Recent Form: L L W L W )

Just like opponent Iceland, Albania also experienced the most successful year in its football history in 2016, when the country was allowed to participate in the European Championship for the first time in history. At the time, the Albanians finished third in a group with France, Switzerland and Romania. After that summer we hardly heard anything from the Balkan country, which soon had no chance of participating in the World Cup. Also in the Nations League, Albania did not break the pot. In Division C, the team of trainer Christian Panucci finished last in a group with Israel and Scotland. Panucci has few reputable players at its disposal. The Albanian players are active throughout Europe, but rarely with an appealing club. The best players are in the last line. Goalkeeper Etrit Berisha qualified with Atalanta Bergamo for the Champions League. Captain Mergim Mavraj is under contract with FC Ingolstadt, while vice-captain Elseid Hysaj can count on quite a bit of playing time at Napoli.

After all, Albania is often in trouble before the opponents of disciplining competition. This is the basis for believing that they cannot do anything in Iceland.
