Avispa struggled to a 1-0 loss to JEF United Chiba at home last weekend. It is very early in the season, of course, but this team now sits bottom of J2 and must do something soon before they hit the habit of not winning and lose all confidence. They look completely without direction on the field – last week saw just two shots and two corners in their favour, while in the match before they scored their lone win of the season on a late goal from Yang Dong-hyen to win over Albirex Niigata and pull three points from nowhere. Their manager and experienced players have to get something together and find a direction for this team before that total meltdown and losing habit forms. Their opposition is not the best, and this is a chance for Avispa to turn their season in the right direction.

Tochigi SC got a point in a 0-0 home draw with Montedio Yamagata on Saturday. Their defence was dour and their forward line was sterile. They have scored just four league goals and one was a penalty kick, yet they have two wins, two draws and two losses so far! This is mainly thanks to their defence which has conceded just six in six matches – three of them against Mito HollyHock - despite being under a lot of pressure. The defence will be the key to Tochigi managing a few draws and the odd low-scoring win to stay away from the bottom of the table.

Avispa are terrible so far this season, but Tochigi are uninspired and boring. A home game will lift Avispa, along with the fact that they do not want to be embarrassed by another defeat at home, and a win could pull them off the bottom and kickstart their season. A desperate win for the home team with 100% effort. It may not be pretty, and won't see many goals but it's an Avispa win.

A defensive display from both teams... Tochigi because it seems all they know and Avispa because they will be desperate not to lose. A touch of magic inspired by the home fans and one goal will be enough for Avispa.

Last season in J2 each team won their home game in meetings between these two teams.
