There is no fresh injury news for Atletico Mineiro here.

Sao Paulo will see the return of defender Igor Vinicius who did not feature in their last league fixture due to suspension.

Atletico Mineiro travelled to Santos in the league last weekend and came back home with a 3-1 loss. It was a disappointing result for them, especially considering they had defeated Santos 2-1 only a couple of days beforehand in the second leg of a round-of-16 cup tie. It also meant that they missed a massive opportunity to reduce the gap between themselves and leaders Palmeiras, who are seven points above them.

Sao Paulo had a night to forget in the league last weekend as they visited rock-bottom Avai and failed to avoid a goalless draw, despite playing at full strength. The side created the best chances throughout the league match but produced only one more shot than the hosts and lacked composure when it came to controlling their weak opponents. Their attacking trio also produced a very uninspiring performance and the team had to settle for a shared point. It was their fourth game without a win in the league, having drawn three and lost one.

Atletico Mineiro are one of the best team in the league at the moment and have been playing entertaining attacking football since the start of the tournament. They have only dropped points at home to leaders Palmeiras, with that official home league match taking place on neutral ground, and have clinched solid and enthusiastic wins in the other three home league fixtures. Sao Paulo, in contrast, haven’t tasted victory in any of their last four league games and have scored only once during that run. I don’t see how Sao Paulo could outshine the hosts here.

Atletico Mineiro scored first in three of their four home league matches while Sao Paulo’s scoring record has been poor of late, having drawn a blank in three of their last four league outings. I expect the hosts to break the deadlock.

Atletico Mineiro settled for a 2-2 draw away at Sao Paulo in the league last season, but they clinched a 1-0 win in their home league encounter. The side are unbeaten in their last four league meetings with Sao Paulo, having won three and drawn one.
