Atletico Mineiro defender and captain Leonardo Silva is doubtful after leaving the pitch last time out with a hamstring injury.

The left flank is set to be a problem for Ceara this week: left winger Eder Luis and left back Samuel Xavier both were substituted off last time out with foot injuries and are doubtful for this game.

Atletico Mineiro pulled off the best performance of the weekend with an exciting 5-2 win over Fluminense. They conceded the opener in the 29th minute but were able to take the lead 16 minutes later and put on a show on the second half, scoring another three goals. The league’s top scorer Roger Guedes managed a brace in that game while centre back Leonardo Silva netted one before leaving the pitch with a hamstring injury in the first half. The team have now won their last two league games and are still chasing the top spot – they are six points behind leaders Flamengo.

Ceara hosted sixth-placed Palmeiras on Sunday and even though they conceded two early goals in the first half, they were able to seal a 2-2 result in the dying minutes of the game through midfielder Elton. It was celebrated like a win for the hosts as they are yet to a victory this season. Despite earning the point, they are still sitting rock-bottom with only five points after 11 rounds.

There is practically no hope for Ceara when visiting Atletico Mineiro here. The hosts are in second place, unbeaten in their last three games and have the league’s top scorer at their disposal, while the visitors have failed to win their last 13 games across all competitions. I can only see a home win here.

Ceara have shipped the first goal behind in six of their last seven league matches while Atletico Mineiro have scored eight half-time goals in the league this season – five of them at home, with only two teams boasting a better goals tally on their own turf. I can see the hosts leading at half time.

Atletico Mineiro and Ceara last faced each other in October 2011 when they drew 1-1 at Atletico Mineiro.
