Atlas started their season with an impressive 2-1 away win against Queretaro last weekend. There was little to separate the two teams throughout most of the league contest, but it was the hosts who hit the back of the net first, with a powerful header from Camilo Sanvezzo. Nevertheless, Atlas levelled via Jesus Isijara and took the lead with a right foot strike from Osvaldo Martinez. It was the perfect start at Atlas for both players, who arrived from Santos Laguna during the winter transfer window. The victory signals a desire to make a fresh start after the disastrous Apertura campaign in which the team finished at 17th place in the table. The side will be determined to qualify for the playoffs this time around and their performance in the opening game suggests their new signings could well make that a reality.

CF America played no league matches last weekend, as their round one encounter against Necaxa was postponed until March. However, the defending champions will start their campaign brimming with confidence. Officially the most successful club in Mexican history, with 13 championship titles, CF America know they have what it takes to secure the double in this campaign. The club made no new signings during the transfer window, a sign that Miguel Herrera feels he has found the winning formula. CF America have also announced that French forward Jeremy Menez is well on his way to recovery, having missed all of last season due to a knee injury. With Menez back on board, CF America will represent a frightening prospect for any opponent in the Clausura tournament although this league game will come too soon for him.

Given their dominant performance in the Apertura stage, the defending champions will enter this league contest as the heavy favourites. I am expecting CF America to secure a comfortable victory in this match.

CF America opened the scoring in ten of their 17 league matches during the regular league stage last season. On the other hand, Atlas conceded first in only three of their 17 league matches in the Apertura 2018. Given those facts, I expect the defending champions to strike first in this match.

CF America have won three and lost one of their four most recent league encounters against Atlas. The hosts claimed a 3-0 win over Atlas when the teams last met in the league in July.
