Copa America---Argentina VS Colombia

Argentina: Title Favorite ( Recent Form: W W L W W )

Argentina is one of the favorites for winning the Copa America, but the last time La Albiceleste was allowed to expand its prize cabinet was 26 years ago. Although the Argentines managed to reach the final in four of the last five editions of the Copa America, they always came out of the fight as a loser. These setbacks, plus the lost World Cup final of 2014 and the failed World Cup of 2018, made Lionel Messi several times decide to put an end to his international career. The superstar, however, has tacked again, and will be present at the Copa America again this summer. He is one of the few trusted names in the Argentine selection, because only nine of the 23 players of this Copa America selection were already part of the World Cup selection last year. The attack is by far the strongest line in Argentina. Players like Sergio Agüero, Paulo Dybala and Lionel Messi are able to give sleepless nights to every defender. However, I have my doubts about the defense. The seven defenders of interim coach Lionel Scaloni have a total of 115 caps behind their name, but sixty of them are in the name of Nicolas Otamendi. In addition, the Argentines have a serious goalkeeper problem. In the last five international matches, Scaloni tested five different goalkeepers, and the three keepers who were eventually rewarded with a spot in the Copa America selection have only ten international matches behind their name. Scaloni is likely to prefer River Plate's 32-year-old Franco Armani, but he is certainly not the best goalie of the tournament.

Colombia: With two 3-0 wins ( Recent Form: W W L W W )

Colombia finished in third place on the Copa America Centenario three years ago, and hopes to win a high score again this time. The country was eliminated by England at the World Cup in the quarter-finals last year, after which national coach Jose Pekerman had to give up at Los Cafeteros. Under successor Carlos Quieroz, the country is doing well with six wins, a draw, and only one defeat, although you have to take results from friendly international matches with a good grain of salt. The Portuguese coach will only really be judged on the performance during this Copa America. In Colombia, James Rodriguez, Radamel Falcao, and Juan Cuadrado are still serving, although the latter two have already largely passed the thirties. This Copa America is one of the last chances for eternal fame for them, although Colombia can organize the tournament together with Argentina next year. Just as with Argentina, the attack is clearly the strongest line, although Colombia has been extremely difficult in recent years against Messi and associates. In the last eight encounters against Argentina, Colombia managed to score only once, and it went no further than five defeats and three draws.

After all, confronting Colombia always brings certain difficulties for Argentina. It is not easy for Tango dancers to create overwhelming appearances.
