Ben Halloran is fit again for Adelaide Utd in a boost to their attacking options but Ryan Strain injured his hamstring early last round against the Central Coast Mariners and will mis out.

Louis Fenton suffered a serious toe injury in Wellington Phoenix’s win over the Newcastle Jets in the last round and will miss the rest of the season. Roy Krishna returns from suspension.

Adelaide Utd

Suspended: Ken Ilso

Doubtful: None

Injured/unavailable: Ryan Strain (hamstring); Papa Diawara, Lachlan Brook (both knee); Jordan Elsey (foot)

Wellington Phoenix

Suspended: None

Doubtful: None

Injured/unavailable: Dylan Fox (ankle), Louis Fenton (toe)

Fifth-placed Adelaide Utd snapped a run of five league games without a win (two draws, three losses) by knocking off the Central Coast Mariners 1-0 in the last round. It must be noted the Mariners are rock bottom on the ladder and the Reds fought hard for their win thanks to an Isaias goal. It is hardly seductive form.

Fourth-placed Wellington Phoenix have claimed three league wins in a row and netted 15 goals in the process, with David Williams scoring a hat-trick in their 4-1 home victory over the Newcastle Jets in the last round. In saying that, Phoenix have only managed three wins from ten trips in league action this season, drawing five and losing two.

I’m leaning towards Wellington Phoenix but their away record worries me. Given they are three points ahead of Adelaide Utd, they may settle for a draw and so will I.

Wellington Phoenix are the third strongest team in first halves this season. They have also managed 22 of their 41 goals in the opening 45 minutes and scored first in their past three league fixtures. Adelaide Utd have only managed 13 first-half goals in the league, so I’m backing the visitors to get the jump.

Adelaide Utd are unbeaten in their past ten league meetings against Wellington Phoenix (six wins, four draws).
