Wanderers’ clash with Sydney FC was postponed last round, allowing new signing Simon Cox some more training to build up his fitness, meaning he could start.

Ben Kantarovski limped off after barely five minutes in Newcastle’s 4-3 win over Central Coast and is a major doubt. Import Wes Hoolahan is close to his league debut after long-term injury.

Eighth-placed Wanderers snapped a three-game losing run with their 3-1 win at the Central Coast Mariners in their last start to keep alive their faint finals hopes. They’ve only managed two wins and seven goals from seven home league matches this season.

The last-placed Jets come into this game buoyed by their drought-breaking 4-3 win over the Mariners and with new coach Carl Robinson officially taking over. Newcastle were winless in nine league matches prior to last round’s win.

Newcastle have the new coach factor but they have only collected four points from eight away league games which is damning. Western Sydney aren’t overly impressive at home, so I’m torn on this. I’ll go for a draw.

Western Sydney and Newcastle are two of the sides with the lowest scoring records in first halves this season. Wanderers have only managed four home league goals inside the opening 45, while the Jets have netted three times in away league matches first halves. I’m backing scores to be level at the break.

The Jets have won the past four meetings between these two clubs. In fact, Newcastle are unbeaten across their past seven league encounters with Wanderers.
